Full Circle Moments:

How Place-Based Research Ties the Past with the Future

February 7 - 8 · Oklahoma City, OK

Place-based research centers knowledge in landscapes, built environments, and communities. Place-based research closes the loop between past and future by making the past actionable for present-day choices. Full-circle moments happen when communities reclaim their shared histories, combine them with contemporary knowledge, and ethically enact changes that preserve identity, enhance resilience, and create new futures rooted in place.

About the Meeting:

The SRSA Annual Meeting brings together rural scholars, students, Extension professionals, and a variety of practitioners in a setting that is both intellectually serious and unusually welcoming. Held in conjunction with the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientists (SAAS), the meeting gives participants access to sessions, posters, and conversations across agricultural and applied disciplines, creating opportunities for exchange well beyond rural sociology. SRSA has a particularly strong tradition of student participation, with an atmosphere that makes it easy for emerging scholars to present work, meet colleagues, and enter professional conversations. At the same time, SRSA sessions regularly bring together leading and emerging social scientists from across the region, offering an unusually close look at new research while it is still taking shape.
